Howdy! I’m excited to step into my new role as General Manager at Nelson Plant Food, and I’d like to share a little about myself and what this role means to me.
My passion for growing plants began on my family’s farm in Southern Maryland. My first job in horticulture was at LilyPons Water Gardens in Lilypons, Maryland, where I developed a deep appreciation for aquatic plants. That experience sparked an interest in the broader world of horticulture.
In 1983, I moved to Texas to work at LilyPons in Brookshire. After spending several years there and one year in California, I decided to pursue a degree in Horticulture at Texas A&M University. While attending Texas A&M, I worked in propagation at Hines Nurseries in Fulshear, Texas. After graduating in 1991, I joined Hines full-time and spent the next 17 years in a variety of roles, including Research & Development, Propagation, New Product Development, Customer Resources, and Product Line Management.
Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work with Carolina Nurseries, Fraleigh Nursery, Greenleaf El Campo, Magnolia Gardens Nursery, and The Brookwood Community. These experiences have given me valuable insight into both large corporate operations and family-owned businesses, allowing me to understand the unique challenges and opportunities each faces.
As I begin this new chapter at Nelson Plant Food, my top priority is serving you—whether you’re a wholesale grower, landscaper, retail garden center, or home gardener. My commitment is to provide exceptional product quality, dependable delivery, and, most importantly, to listen to your needs. Nelson Plant Food has built its reputation on creating fertilizer blends tailored to the specific needs of our customers, and I’m proud to be part of that tradition. Over the coming weeks, I look forward to meeting many of you at trade shows, TNLA meetings, customer visits, and tours. I’m excited to learn more about your business and discuss how Nelson Plant Food can help you succeed.
