Fall Planting Starts At The Roots

If there’s one thing I’ve learned after years of planting trees, shrubs, and just about everything else I can squeeze into the garden, it’s this: what happens below the soil is just as important as what we see above it.

That’s one of the biggest reasons I love planting in the fall.

Once those brutal summer temperatures start backing off, newly planted trees and shrubs aren’t fighting the same heat stress they would in the middle of summer. At the same time, the soil can stay warm enough for roots to keep getting established. That gives a new plant a chance to focus less on surviving and more on building the root system it will depend on when spring — and eventually another hot summer — rolls around.

And if I’m going to dig a hole, wrestle a tree into place, get it straight, backfill it, water it in, and hope I don’t throw my back out in the process, I want to give those roots every advantage I can.

That’s where NutriStar Genesis Transplant Mix 6-1-3 comes in.

NutriStar Genesis Transplant Mix is more than just plant food. It was designed specifically for transplanting and contains ingredients that support both the plant and the living soil around its roots. It contains mycorrhizal and mycelial fungi to help increase root efficiency, along with beneficial bacteria that help build soil structure. Fulvic acid helps improve nutrient availability, while carbohydrates provide an energy source for beneficial soil microbes. NutriStar Genesis Transplant Mix also provides micronutrients, carbon-based nitrogen, feather meal, and root-growth support to help that newly planted tree get settled into its new home.

In other words, we aren’t just feeding the tree. We’re helping create a better environment around the roots.

When I’m planting a tree, I like to dig the planting hole about twice the size of the root ball. Once the tree is positioned properly, spread NutriStar Genesis Transplant Mix around the entire root ball, backfill with the appropriate soil, and water everything in thoroughly.

And remember, fall planting isn’t always about seeing a bunch of new growth above ground. Sometimes the most important growth is happening where you can’t see it.

You’re building the foundation now. You’re giving those roots time to establish. And you’re setting that plant up to come out of the gate stronger when spring arrives. Because whether we’re talking about a shade tree, flowering tree, shrub, or perennial, it all comes back to the same thing: Strong plants start with strong roots.

Give your fall plantings a strong beginning with NutriStar Genesis Transplant Mix.
