I actually tried to sell fertilizer to a DOORBELL!! Here’s the story. Julie and I were on a sales trip from Jacksonville, Florida, to Mobile, Alabama, two weeks ago. I went up to a landscape yard that had a house on it. On the door was the sign, “This is a residence. Do not come in”. I rang the Ring doorbell, and nobody answered. As usual, I put my jar of ColorStar and my jar of Genesis and the promotional material down on the porch in front of the door. Then, the Ring doorbell starts to talk to me. It says, “Please leave a message”. I started to talk to the Ring doorbell, and I picked up my jars and handouts and began to show them all to the doorbell. I figured that it was recording my voice and video. As I am doing this, the thought ran through my mind: I AM SELLING FERTILIZER TO A STUPID DOORBELL!!! When I finished my presentation, I again put the materials down by the door. Then this man’s voice came over the doorbell, “Hey, Dean, that stuff looks really great. I am in my pickup now, but call me back in twenty minutes”. I called him back, and we had about a twenty-minute conversation about our products and company. In the future, if somebody tells me that they are having a difficult time getting something done, I am going to say, “Look, if I can sell fertilizer to a doorbell, you can do this thing you are having trouble with.”
