Grower's Corner: Summer Fertilization

We did it! We made it through another spring, and now we pivot to focus on planting and plant maintenance to get your crops ready for this Fall and next Spring. One of those tasks is fertilizing those crops that didn’t sell during the spring. They are usually out of fertilizer, and you’re having to maintain their quality until they sell. I recommend using a low nitrogen fertilizer that will keep them green but minimizes excessive growth since they are already the grade your customers are looking for. Using these types of low-N blends will also save you money. Depending on how long you’ll have to maintain the crop, I would select a blend with nitrogen in the 8-14 % range, like an 8-3-5  4-5 month, or a 12-4-6 5-6 month, or a 14-5-7 5-6 month. Call me if you have any questions or if you have a special blend you’d like us to make for you.

Keep hydrated, have a good summer, and we’ll see you at TNLA!
